St. Henry's boys soccer team scored five goals and cruised past Newport Central Catholic 5-1 on Aug. 20, punching its ticket to the All 'A' Classic Regional Final.
The Crusaders controlled the match from the opening whistle at Beechwood, where the 6 p.m. semifinal quickly turned lopsided. St. Henry Athletics said on X that the offense came up big against NewCath to send the Crusaders to Saturday's championship round.
Individual goal scorers for the semifinal were not released, but the offensive firepower has been a theme all tournament. In Tuesday's first-round rout of Holy Cross, St. Henry won 8-0 behind two goals apiece from Landon Schmidt and Cooper Gastright, with Charlie Ramsey, Nick Maher, Max Popil and Patrick Schneider each adding one.
Schmidt and Gastright have been the engine of the attack all season. Both found the net in the Aug. 13 season opener, a 4-1 win over Campbell County, where Schmidt scored twice and Gastright and Finn Carran added goals.
Across three games, the Crusaders have outscored opponents 17-2. That stretch includes the Campbell County opener and two All 'A' Classic rounds.
The All 'A' Classic is Kentucky's postseason tournament for smaller-enrollment schools. St. Henry entered the bracket ranked No. 29 in the state by the Rundell Rankings, a math-based Elo rating system for Kentucky high school soccer, as of Aug. 18.
As we reported Aug. 20, the St. Henry girls soccer team also advanced past NewCath with a 2-0 shutout, meaning both Crusader programs will compete for regional titles this weekend.
St. Henry plays in the All 'A' Regional Final on Saturday. The opponent, time and location have not been announced.
