St. Henry's volleyball team rolled past Simon Kenton in straight sets Wednesday, Sept. 16, winning 25-13, 25-15 and 25-21 to complete a program-wide sweep.

All three levels won. The Crusaders' freshman squad took its match 2-1 and the JV team won 2-0, according to St. Henry Athletics on X.

The varsity victory was the latest in a strong stretch for head coach Maureen Kaiser's squad. St. Henry entered the week with a 3-1 win over North Oldham on Tuesday, Sept. 15, as we reported that day. The Crusaders dropped the first set 23-25 before taking the next three (25-12, 25-11, 26-24).

St. Henry also swept Dixie Heights 3-0 on Thursday, Sept. 10, in a district match (25-10, 25-11, 25-8).

Simon Kenton, ranked No. 4 in the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association (KVCA) 8th Region preseason poll, finished 20-14 last season and reached the 8th Region semifinals, according to a LINK nky preseason preview. The Pioneers entered 2026 chasing a ninth straight 32nd District title.

The Crusaders' midseason surge dates to their signature win Sept. 2, when they rallied from two sets down to beat Notre Dame 3-2 (18-25, 24-26, 27-25, 25-20, 15-11) and snap the Pandas' 59-match winning streak against 9th Region opponents. St. Henry stood at 9-3 after that match and was ranked No. 6 in the KVCA state poll, per the NKY Tribune.

"We had the momentum and that's what volleyball is, a game of momentum," Kaiser told the NKY Tribune on Sept. 3, after the Notre Dame comeback.

The defending 34th District champions carry a roster built around juniors. Libero Kenadi Sieg, a KVCA second-team all-state pick last season who has committed to the University of Cincinnati, anchors the back row. Hitter Violet Main and setter Madelyn Keipert are also juniors in the regular rotation, which features only two seniors. St. Henry was tied for No. 2 in the KVCA 9th Region preseason poll, behind No. 1 Notre Dame.

St. Henry hosts Holy Cross on Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the annual Playing For A Purpose fundraiser. Proceeds will benefit T1D Warriors, an organization that supports people dealing with Type 1 Diabetes.
