St. Henry's volleyball team dropped the opening set on the road at North Oldham on Tuesday, Sept. 15, then rattled off three straight to win 3-1.

The Crusaders fell 25-23 in the first set before dominating the next two, 25-12 and 25-11. North Oldham pushed back in the fourth, but St. Henry held on 26-24 to close it out, according to St. Henry Athletics on X.

The win carried extra weight.

North Oldham was ranked No. 1 in the 8th Region in the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association's first regular-season poll, released Aug. 28. St. Henry checked in at No. 6 statewide in the same KVCA poll.

The comeback pattern has become familiar for head coach Maureen Kaiser's squad. On Sept. 2, the Crusaders fell behind two sets to none against No. 2-ranked Notre Dame. They rallied to win in five sets, snapping the Pandas' 59-match winning streak against Ninth Region opponents, as LINKnky reported.

"You play five for a reason," Kaiser told LINKnky after that Sept. 2 win over Notre Dame. "We've got a lot of young girls learning the game and learning spots."

St. Henry carries just two seniors in its regular rotation. Juniors Violet Main, the top returning hitter and blocker, and setter Madelyn Keipert anchor the lineup alongside libero Kenadi Sieg, also a junior, according to a Cincinnati Enquirer preseason report.

Since the Notre Dame upset, St. Henry has kept winning. The Crusaders swept Dixie Heights 3-0 in a district match on Sept. 10 with set scores of 25-10, 25-11 and 25-8. A day later at the Louisville Invitational Tournament, they beat Henry Clay 2-0 (25-11, 25-17) and knocked off No. 4-ranked Sacred Heart 2-1 (18-25, 25-21, 25-19) to go unbeaten in pool play.

The North Oldham result gives the Crusaders four wins in six days against opponents that included two ranked programs.

St. Henry's next scheduled match is a home contest against Holy Cross on Sept. 23. That match doubles as the program's annual Playing For A Purpose fundraiser, with proceeds going to T1D Warriors, an organization supporting people with Type 1 diabetes, according to the NKY Tribune.
