Rhonda R. Perry, 58, died after losing control of her motorized scooter on Dixie Highway in Park Hills early Saturday, Oct. 10, according to Kenton County police, as WLWT reported.

Rhonda R. Perry, 58, was riding a 2022 YB150T-13 Kaitong scooter northbound on Dixie Highway when she lost control near the intersection with South Arlington Road. Perry struck the pavement. Investigators determined it was a single-vehicle crash.

Officers were dispatched to the intersection at approximately 2:04 a.m. First responders found Perry at the scene with potentially life-threatening injuries. She was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Perry reportedly was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.

Kentucky law requires helmets only for motorcycle riders age 20 and younger, instructional permit holders and operators licensed for less than one year, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The scooter's engine displacement has not been released, so it is unclear whether the vehicle would be classified as a moped or a larger motorized scooter under state law. That distinction determines whether the helmet requirement applies.

The Kenton County Police Department's Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating. Local 12 reported that those with information can reach Sgt. Charles Duncan at 859-392-1955.

The crash marks another incident on Dixie Highway in Kenton County in less than three weeks. On Sept. 23, a two-vehicle crash in the 14100 block of Dixie Highway near Green Road killed 57-year-old Sherry Lingar. An 80-year-old driver crossed the center line and struck her vehicle head-on, according to WCPO. That crash occurred several miles south of Saturday's scene in Park Hills.

Anyone with information about Perry's crash is asked to contact Kenton County police at 859-392-1955.
