Drivers heading south on Interstate 75 into Cincinnati will hit a full closure starting at 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is shutting down all southbound lanes at the Freeman Avenue exit (Exit 1F) for girder installation on the Linn Street Bridge Replacement and Reconstruction project, WLWT reported. The closure runs until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19.

Fort Mitchell and Crestview Hills commuters who cross the river on I-75 will need to find another way south all weekend.

ODOT's signed detour sends through traffic east on S.R. 562, the Norwood Lateral, then south on I-71. Local traffic can also use Freeman Avenue to Mehring Way to Elm Street and Third Street to re-enter I-75/71 South, according to I-75 Exit Guide.

The closure extends beyond the main interstate lanes. The entrance ramp from the Western Hills Viaduct to I-75 South closes at 9 p.m. Friday.

Local traffic between the Norwood Lateral and the Freeman Avenue exit will be maintained, but ODOT said there will be no signed detours on local streets.

This is the second weekend closure for the Linn Street project. The closure follows a Sept. 25–28 shutdown in both directions for beam installation.

If weather cancels the work, ODOT said it would be rescheduled to the weekend of Nov. 6-9.

Presidential rally adds to Saturday traffic

Drivers near Northern Kentucky University (NKU) face a separate traffic disruption on Saturday, Oct. 17. President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a rally at Truist Arena in Highland Heights, according to NKY Tribune.

Highland Heights police posted a traffic alert for Saturday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. The heaviest delays are expected between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. near NKU.

"Anticipate significant traffic delays and potential road closures in the areas surrounding Northern Kentucky University and Truist Arena," Highland Heights police said in a social media post.

The Linn Street project is part of the broader Brent Spence Bridge Corridor improvements. Linn Street is expected to reopen to traffic in fall 2027, with all project work scheduled for completion in late spring 2029.
