Notre Dame Academy junior Maggie Durrent ran an 18:56.22 5K during a weekend meet in Huntsville, Alabama, breaking a school record that had stood since 2008.

Durrent became the first Panda to crack the 19-minute barrier. The previous mark of 19:07 was set by Lizzy Brannen 18 years ago. Durrent's run shaved more than 10 seconds off that time, a significant margin in a distance race where school records can stand for decades.

The Park Hills school celebrated the achievement on its official Instagram account on Sept. 28, calling the performance a historic moment for the program. The Panda Press Weekly newsletter, dated Sept. 30, confirmed the official time at 18:56.22.

No statement from Durrent or the NDA coaching staff was available.

The record caps a strong period for NDA cross country. The Pandas compete in the KHSAA Ninth Region, the classification covering Northern Kentucky high school athletics. In October 2025, the program won the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference (NKAC) varsity championship and claimed the St. Henry Invitational JV title in the same weekend, recording seven personal records and 12 season bests.

Durrent's sub-19 time positions her as a contender heading into the postseason. The KHSAA regional cross country meets are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, at sites still being finalized across the state. Runners who advance from regionals will compete at the KHSAA State Cross Country Meet on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

For NDA, the path from regionals to state runs through the Ninth Region field. Durrent and the Pandas will look to carry the momentum from Huntsville into that stretch.
