Kenton County approved $2.1 million in one-time grants to nine organizations that serve residents in need. The three largest awards support projects in Fort Mitchell, Crestview Hills and Park Hills.
The Family Nurturing Center in Crestview Hills and DCCH Center for Children and Families in Fort Mitchell each received $500,000, according to a Kenton County Government announcement published Oct. 12. St. Charles Community in Park Hills also received $500,000.
The money comes from the county's COLT Funds, generated by the Mental Health, Intellectual Disability and Aging Payroll Tax that voters approved in 1980. The grants are separate from Kenton County's regular annual support, which totals $4.4 million to 48 organizations for Fiscal Year 2027.
Judge-Executive Kris Knochelmann said in the announcement that the county's partnerships with these organizations help residents across the community, whether supporting seniors, families or individuals with disabilities.
Largest grants
The county described the Family Nurturing Center's $500,000 as funding to renovate its Crestview Hills facility. The organization is also building a new approximately 18,000-square-foot location on Centre View Boulevard in the Thomas More Office Park, Link NKY reported in June. The nonprofit serves about 10,000 children and adults annually and offers its evidence-based therapies free of charge.
"When we look at our having 85 kids on a waiting list for counseling, even if I had funding for another counselor, I don't have anywhere to put them," CEO Jane Herms said at a June beam-signing event for the new building.
DCCH Center, at 75 Orphanage Road in Fort Mitchell, will put its $500,000 toward technology and safety upgrades at its residential campus. The center serves children who have experienced significant trauma. It houses 32 children, according to the center.
St. Charles Community's $500,000 will fund Phase I of a new senior living center in Park Hills.
