The Fort Mitchell Police Department swore in a new officer Monday with more than two decades of law enforcement experience.

Jim Miskanin took the oath of office at the Fort Mitchell city building on Oct. 5, with Mayor Greg Pohlgeers administering the ceremony, the city announced on X. Miskanin recently retired from the Covington Police Department, where he served more than 20 years.

The city welcomed Miskanin as "Officer Miskanin" in its announcement. No details about his specific assignment or unit within the Fort Mitchell department were included.

Miskanin's arrival comes during a stretch of change for the department. In August, the city swore in Joe Maier as captain, replacing Bill Zerhusen, who retired after 25 years with the Fort Mitchell Police Department. Police Chief Rob Nader leads the agency.

Maier's promotion and Miskanin's hire mark two leadership and staffing moves for the department within roughly two months.

The Fort Mitchell Police Department serves roughly 8,800 residents in the Kenton County city along Dixie Highway south of Covington.
