Beechwood's 6-0 Tigers collected 15 of 16 first-place votes in the Week 8 Class 2A media poll, locking down the No. 1 ranking in the state.
The Kentucky High School Football Media Poll, released Wednesday, Oct. 7, gave Beechwood 159 total points. The poll is conducted by 16 sports journalists representing each of the state's basketball regions. Owensboro Catholic (6-1) sat second with 141 points and the lone remaining first-place vote.
Now, Beechwood travels to St. Henry on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. The Class 2A, District 5 showdown pits the 6-0 Tigers against a Crusaders squad that has won four straight to reach 4-2.
St. Henry earned a vote in the Class 2A poll. Running back Lucas Pate powered the Crusaders' latest win, rushing for 223 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries in a 45-14 rout of Owen County.
Beechwood was just as dominant. The Tigers dismantled Walton-Verona 63-7 on Friday, Oct. 2. Senior quarterback Emmett Queen went 8-of-13 for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Senior receiver Tyler Fryman hauled in four catches for 101 yards.
Queen, a 6-foot-4, 216-pound Wake Forest commit, ranks fourth in the state in completion percentage at .772, according to the NKY Tribune. Through six games he has connected on 71 of 92 passes for 1,178 yards and 13 touchdowns. He now has 52 career touchdown passes in 19 games at Beechwood.
Fryman, a University of Kentucky commit in both football and baseball, has 64 career touchdowns, placing him in the top five in program history.
"You can't do that without an offensive line," Queen said in an August preseason interview with the NKY Tribune, crediting the blockers in front of him after throwing for 2,710 yards and 39 touchdowns in 2025.
Head coach Noel Rash returned to the Beechwood sideline this season after three years away. He won eight state championships in his first 17 seasons leading the program. The Tigers have 18 state titles. They returned eight starters on each side of the ball from a 2025 squad that went 11-2 before a 41-40 loss to Owensboro Catholic in the Class 2A state semifinals.
Pate has been the engine of St. Henry's four-game surge. Friday's matchup will test whether that momentum holds against the state's top-ranked team.
After the St. Henry game, Beechwood hosts Gallatin County on Oct. 16, travels to Bracken County on Oct. 23 and closes the regular season at Campbell County on Oct. 30.
