Kenton County families now have two numbers to watch this school year: 100% transition readiness and 96.25% attendance.
Superintendent Dr. Henry Webb laid out both targets on Aug. 10, when he kicked off the district's new teacher orientation for incoming staff, according to the Kenton County School District's official account on X. Webb also discussed the district's core beliefs with the group.
The benchmarks give families across Fort Wright, Edgewood, Villa Hills and surrounding communities a concrete yardstick as the school year begins. Teachers report Aug. 13. Students' first day is Aug. 19.
What transition readiness means
Transition readiness is the district's own measure of whether a student is prepared for college or a career after graduation. Kenton County tracks it through its Community Based Accountability System, which uses different criteria than the state's "post-secondary readiness" formula.
As of May 2025, 96.96% of KCSD seniors graduated transition-ready by the district's measure. The state's post-secondary readiness rate for the same year came in at 89.3% because the two systems count differently. Kentucky changed its accountability rules in spring 2026, formally allowing districts to adopt local models alongside the state system. Kenton County was already operating under its own model before that change.
"The district's transition readiness rate has grown greatly in recent years," Webb told LINK nky in a July 28 profile interview, describing the district's progress toward the same 100% goal he reiterated to new teachers Monday.
The attendance benchmark
The 96.25% attendance target is the second pillar of the district's accountability model. Attendance is tracked district-wide as a core metric under the CBAS framework, meaning individual schools are measured against the same standard.
Webb, now in his 10th year leading the district, has held both goals steady across multiple school years. The new teachers he addressed Monday are working under a four-year contract the five-member Board of Education, chaired by Jesica Jehn, approved with the Kenton County Education Association in May 2026. That agreement runs through June 30, 2030.
What families need to know
Online registration for 2026-27 opened July 7 through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal and remains available for families who have not yet completed it. All households are asked to verify and update student information before the first day.
As we reported July 28, the district posted a 99.36% graduation rate in 2025 by its own measurement and a 98.4% rate by the state's count.
