Thomas More University will launch a women's flag football program in Spring 2028, the Crestview Hills school announced Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Vice President and Director of Athletics Terry Connor confirmed the addition in a university press release, calling it the first new sport at Thomas More since the Saints completed their transition to NCAA Division II in 2025. The program brings the university's women's sports total to 16.

"Adding women's flag football is about creating another opportunity for young women to discover their talents, develop as leaders, build meaningful relationships, and become part of the Thomas More community," Connor said in the release.

The announcement comes eight months after the NCAA voted at its January 2026 Convention to add women's flag football to its Emerging Sports for Women program. Representatives from all three NCAA divisions approved the recommendation. The program requires at least 40 schools to sponsor a sport at the varsity level before it can be considered for NCAA championship status.

More than 300 teams are expected to compete nationally during the 2026-2027 academic year, according to the Thomas More release. The sport is also set to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.

Thomas More had already posted a head coaching job description Sept. 1, according to the Collegiate Flag Football newsletter. The search for the Saints' first women's flag football head coach remains open.

Connor described the new program as an educational opportunity that would help students grow "academically, physically, socially, morally, and as leaders."

Thomas More has not announced conference affiliation for the new program, roster plans or scholarship details.

The Saints' first women's flag football season is set for Spring 2028. The head coaching position remains open.
