Kenton County Commissioner Beth Sewell will join her Boone and Campbell County counterparts for a public panel on housing, transportation, healthcare and economic development on Aug. 28, at Turfway Park Racing & Gaming in Florence.
The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce's Government Forum, titled "County Leadership Shaping Northern Kentucky," gives residents a chance to question all three commissioners in a single setting. An audience Q&A session follows the panel.
Boone County Commissioner Jesse Brewer and Campbell County Commissioner Tom Lampe round out the speaker lineup. NKY Chamber President and CEO Brent Cooper will moderate, according to LINK nky.
The agenda lands at a moment when housing pressure across the three counties is well-documented. According to 2024 data from the Kentucky Housing Corporation, Kenton, Campbell and Boone counties are a combined 25,000 housing units short of meeting workforce needs. A 2023 Northern Kentucky Area Development District study found the region needs roughly 1,330 new units per year to keep pace with economic growth, with the largest gap in housing for workers earning $15 to $25 per hour.
Tami Wilson, the Chamber's vice president of government relations and business advocacy, said in an Aug. 4 press release that the forum gives residents a direct line to commissioners about their day-to-day roles in local government and how county-level decisions affect the region's business community.
Transportation is also on the docket. Kentucky opened public comment on a federal road plan that includes funding for the Brent Spence Bridge corridor and other Northern Kentucky projects.
