Musicians Preston Bell Charles III and Nick Rose will board a TANK Route 1 bus on August 20 and play live music for riders between Fort Mitchell, Crestview Hills, Edgewood, and points north and south along the Dixie Highway corridor.
The performance is part of Ride with an Artist Day, a free one-day event that puts dancers, musicians, and visual artists on Northern Kentucky buses. The event is a partnership between Highland Heights-based dance company Pones and the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky, funded by a $7,000 ArtsWave NKY Creative Placemaking Grant.
No ticket or registration is required beyond boarding a TANK bus.
The Route 1 music set runs from 2 to 3 p.m. Pones dancers will also perform on Route 2X (Amazon Air/Airport) from 11 a.m. to noon and on Route 25 from 1 to 2 p.m. On Route 7 (Madison Avenue/Latonia), musicians Siri Imani and Jess Lamb perform from 4 to 5 p.m. Three additional buses will carry visual art installations by Lindsey Whittle and Radha Lakshmi, Devan Horton and Ethan Machell, and Emily Moores; those routes have not yet been announced.
Jenny Kammes, TANK's marketing manager, said the event "transforms the everyday commute into a unique community experience while celebrating the incredible talent found throughout our region," according to the NKY Tribune.
The $7,000 grant came from a $60,000 round awarded by ArtsWave and meetNKY to nine creative placemaking projects across Boone, Campbell, and Kenton counties in June.
Route 1 runs from Cincinnati through Fort Mitchell, Crestview Hills, Edgewood, Fort Wright, Lakeside Park, Erlanger, Elsmere, and Florence. The City of Crestview Hills lists Route 1 among the TANK routes passing through the city.
