Kentucky high school bowling teams will compete under a revised regional alignment this season after the KHSAA Board of Control approved the change Wednesday, Sept. 16.

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) said its staff and board had been reviewing the bowling alignment and gathering data because of the consolidation of bowling centers since 2020. The goal was to balance regional tournament fields by team count, according to the KHSAA.

The association said it will distribute the new alignment to member schools in the coming days. Specific regional groupings have not yet been made public.

The board also approved final parameters for the basketball shot clock at the same meeting. The approved rules include special resets when a defensive foul is called and when the defense kicks the ball. Those parameters take effect for games where a shot clock is in use and will be the standard for the 2026-27 season, which the KHSAA designated as the mandatory option year.

The KHSAA board voted 13-5 in September 2025 to adopt a 35-second shot clock for boys' and girls' varsity basketball, with full implementation set for the 2027-28 season. During 2026-27, schools are expected to use the shot clock in regular-season games where equipment is available. Postseason games will not use the shot clock until 2027-28.

The board also heard public comment requests on district and regional realignment from Buckhorn, Floyd Central, Fort Knox and Meade County high schools. No action was taken. Those requests will be discussed further at the November board meeting, when all affected schools will have a chance to provide feedback.
