Kenton County residents who want to vote in the November general election must register by 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5.

Voters can register online through the Kentucky Secretary of State's website or mail a completed application to the Kenton County Clerk at P.O. Box 1109, Covington, according to LinkNKY. The deadline also applies to residents who need to update a registration to a current address.

Mail-in absentee ballots

Kentucky requires an approved excuse to vote by mail. Qualifying reasons include active military service, living away from a permanent address or a medical condition that prevents voting in person.

Voters who qualify can request a ballot through the state's online absentee portal, which opened Sept. 19 and closes at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20. The portal warns voters who plan to cast a ballot in person not to request a mail-in ballot.

Completed absentee ballots can be mailed back using the address in the ballot packet or dropped in a county drop box. The Kenton County Clerk's office lists two drop box locations: the Kenton County Government Center at 1840 Simon Kenton Way in Covington and the Historic Kenton County Courthouse at 5272 Madison Pike in Independence.

In-person absentee voting (excuse required)

Voters with an approved excuse can cast ballots in person at the Kenton County Government Center from Wednesday, Oct. 21 through Wednesday, Oct. 28, excluding weekends. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the Kenton County Clerk's office.

Early voting (no excuse needed)

Any registered voter can cast a ballot early from Thursday, Oct. 29 through Saturday, Oct. 31. No excuse is required. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at all five locations:

  • Kenton County Public Library, Covington Branch, 502 Scott St., Covington
  • Independence Senior Center, 2001 Jackwoods Parkway, Independence
  • Kenton County Government Center, 1840 Simon Kenton Way, Covington
  • Lakeside Christian Church, 195 Buttermilk Pike, Lakeside Park
  • Kenton County Public Library, Latonia Branch, 3911 Winston Ave., Covington

The Oct. 5 registration deadline applies to all three voting methods.
