Kenton County Fiscal Court will vote July 28 on whether to authorize the CVG airport board to issue up to $250 million in debt obligations and on locking in the Board of Health tax rate for the coming year. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Kenton County Government Center in Covington.
What won't be on the table: the twice-delayed vote on automatic license plate readers. The controversial Flock Safety camera proposal does not appear on the amended agenda posted July 24, based on a review of the county's online agenda center. The agenda was truncated in the county's online system, so additional items beyond those listed may exist.
CVG airport debt and health tax
Resolution 26-19 would authorize Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann to approve the Kenton County Airport Board's issuance of up to $250 million in revenue obligations. The airport board oversees Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
Resolution 26-18 would set the Kenton County Board of Health tax rate for 2026-2027 at 2.3 cents per $100 of assessed property valuation.
A third resolution, 26-20, would adopt a Local Assistance Road Program agreement between the Fiscal Court and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for state highway aid.
Roads, bridges, and police vehicles
The consent agenda covers more than a dozen items affecting county infrastructure and services. Among them:
- Awarding the Menefee Road Bridge Replacement contract to Sunesis Construction Co.
- Approving engineering services from Burgess and Niple, Inc. for design and environmental work on an intersection realignment at KY 14 and US 25
- Awarding the road salt contract to Compass Minerals America, Inc. for Public Works
- Extending the Eaton Asphalt in-place paving contract
- Awarding roadway striping and pavement marking to Central Seal Company
- Purchasing seven 2027 Dodge Durangos for the Kenton County Police Department from Freedom Dodge
- Purchasing two Gator XUC 845 vehicles for Parks and Recreation from Bud Herbert Motors
The consent agenda also includes an update to the county's Open Records Policy and Procedures.
License plate reader vote absent from agenda
Residents who packed the Fiscal Court chambers on July 14 to oppose the ALPR proposal won't find the item on the July 28 agenda. At that meeting, community members voiced opposition to the plan, which County Police Chief Michael "Spike" Jones has said would place six cameras at park entrances and the county jail to deter crime and protect children. Residents and political candidates from across the political spectrum raised concerns about privacy, surveillance, and data security, according to LinkNKY.
Commissioners expressed mixed views and said they would revisit the proposal at a future meeting. No date has been set.
Nearby Newport ended its own Flock Safety pilot program on July 14 after residents aired grievances at a July 8 town hall, according to Cincinnati Magazine.
Awards and golf course update
The court will present the Dr. Jon Draud Pioneer Award to Karen Finan and a Lifesaving Award to Sgt. Daniel Preder. Tim Grebs will deliver a golf course update. Commissioner Joe Nienaber will lead the invocation.
