The 11-member board that adopts regulations and policies governing every public school in Kentucky, including Kenton County and Beechwood Independent districts, will keep two northern Kentucky voices through 2030.
Gov. Andy Beshear reappointed Randolph Poe of Union and Julia Pyle of Florence to the Kentucky Board of Education, the NKY Tribune reported Saturday, August 1. Both terms expire April 14, 2030.
The board's regulations apply to all Kentucky public schools. Local boards, including Kenton County's 22 schools serving 13,945 students as of the 2024 school year, implement policy within that framework.
Who they are
Poe is executive director of the Northern Kentucky Education Council, which works to advance student success from early childhood through post-secondary education across the region. He started his career as a school bus driver in Boone County and rose to superintendent, a position he held for 12 years before retiring in June 2020. He is a 1979 Newport High School graduate who earned degrees from Northern Kentucky University and his superintendent certification from Xavier University. He was named 2013 Kentucky Superintendent of the Year and won the 2015 F.L. Dupree Outstanding Superintendent Award.
Beshear first appointed Poe to the board on Sept. 2, 2020. His reappointment means he will have served nearly a decade by the time his new term expires.
Pyle is president of Parent Camp Inc. No additional background on the organization was available in public records reviewed for this report.
Other NKY appointments
In the same announcement, Beshear appointed Michelle Snodgrass-Deimling of Cold Spring to the Northern Kentucky University Board of Regents for a term expiring Sept. 10, 2031. Snodgrass-Deimling is a private practice attorney and former commonwealth's attorney for the 17th Judicial Circuit. She replaces Gregory Mecher, who was not confirmed by the Senate.
Victoria Grooms of Newport was reappointed to the NKU Board of Regents for a term expiring June 30, 2032. Grooms is director of admissions at Per Scholas.
