Kenton County residents can drop off old electronics, batteries, pesticides and other hazardous household items for free on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Thomas More Stadium in Florence.

The Northern Kentucky Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 7950 Freedom Way. Residents of Kenton, Boone and Campbell counties are eligible, and registration is required. Forms are available at nkyhhw.org and must be printed and brought to the event.

The Northern Kentucky Solid Waste Management Area (NKSWMA) hosts the collection annually.

What you can bring

The event accepts electronics, oil-based paint (limit of 10 cans), aerosol cans, household cleaners, pesticides, batteries, automotive fluids, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, smoke detectors and fluorescent light bulbs.

Electronics include TVs (limit of two), monitors, cell phones, laptops, printers, computers and what organizers call "mixed electronics," meaning anything that takes a battery or has a cord. That covers blenders, remote controls, keyboards, cameras, power tools and game systems, among other items. Large appliances like refrigerators are not accepted.

Accepted batteries include lithium-ion, nickel-cadmium, nickel metal hydride and lead-acid types. Standard alkaline batteries are not accepted. According to the NKSWMA's event page, those are safe to toss in regular household trash.

What to leave at home

The event does not accept latex or water-based paint, tires, appliances, fertilizer, medications, explosives, ammunition or fireworks. Latex paint can be dried out with the lid off and placed in regular trash.

Separate from fall clean-up

The Nov. 7 collection is a different event from Kenton County Public Works' Fall Clean-Up, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3, at 420 Independence Station Road. That clean-up does not accept hazardous materials, paint, liquid waste or automotive fluids, according to Kenton County's public notice.
