Fort Wright's city council held the second reading of a stop sign ordinance and introduced a measure allowing the city to revoke business licenses at its August 2 meeting, according to the council's posted agenda. Vote outcomes have not been posted.

Ordinance 06-2026, which authorizes the installation of new stop signs in the city, reached its second reading at the 6 p.m. session. The ordinance received its first reading at a special meeting on July 15. Under Kentucky's two-reading procedure, the second reading is the final step before an ordinance becomes law.

The agenda does not identify which intersections would receive new signs.

Council members also took up the first reading of Ordinance 07-2026, which would establish grounds for revoking business licenses. The ordinance was listed under "Unfinished Business," indicating prior discussion, though no public documents describe what prompted the measure. A second reading and vote would be required before it takes effect.

Bailey retirement formalized

The council was set to formally recognize the retirement of City Administrator Jill Cain Bailey, who has served Fort Wright for approximately 31 years. Resolution 08-2026 honors her service, and Proclamation 06-2026 designates August 31 as "Jill Cain Bailey Day."

Bailey's last day is August 31. Fire Chief Steve Schewe will serve as interim city administrator, the NKY Tribune reported July 26. Mayor Dave Hatter is drafting the job posting for her permanent replacement.

Schewe has served as Fort Wright's fire and EMS chief for at least eight years, appearing in council records as early as 2017. Bailey was formally appointed CAO in May 2018 via executive order approved unanimously by the council.
