Drivers who cut through Idaho Avenue to reach Dixie Highway will face enforcement starting Aug. 12, when Beechwood Schools opens for the year.

The Fort Mitchell Police Department is reminding motorists that left turns from Idaho Avenue onto Dixie Highway are prohibited during school hours on school days. The restriction applies during two windows: 6:45–7:45 a.m. for morning drop-off and 1:45–2:45 p.m. for afternoon dismissal.

The city posted the reminder on X on Aug. 11, one day before the restriction takes effect.

The intersection sits along U.S. 25, the major north-south arterial through Kenton County, near Beechwood's campus. Fort Mitchell's city offices are on the same corridor at 2355 Dixie Highway.

School start dates

Beechwood Schools, the public district serving about 1,572 students across three schools, opens Wednesday, Aug. 12. A second area school referenced in the city's post opens Aug. 18. The left-turn prohibition applies on all school days for both calendars.

What drivers need to know

The ban covers left turns from Idaho Avenue onto Dixie Highway only. It does not apply outside the two one-hour windows or on non-school days such as weekends, holidays and breaks.

Drivers on Idaho Avenue who need to reach Dixie Highway during those hours should plan alternate routes. The FMPD has not specified the fine for violations.

Enforcement begins Wednesday morning.
