Through Aug. 7, drivers on Dixie Highway through Kenton County face daily single-lane closures after the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet began a $1.39 million resurfacing project.

The work stretches from north of Dortha Avenue to the Boone/Kenton County line, and from the county line to north of Hallam Avenue, covering portions of the corridor that run through Edgewood, Crestview Hills, and Villa Hills. Crews will close one lane in each direction from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Aug. 7.

Milling operations started July 20 and paving began July 23. The Transportation Cabinet expects milling and paving to wrap up by Friday, July 31, with the full project completed by Aug. 7, according to a KYTC District 6 bulletin issued Friday, July 17.

The project was originally paired with a plan to reduce Dixie Highway from four lanes to three between Turfway Road and Commonwealth Avenue. The Transportation Cabinet shelved that reconfiguration on Monday, June 8, after backlash from residents and elected officials in Erlanger, Elsmere, and Florence. The resurfacing will proceed without any lane-count changes.

Beyond resurfacing, the project includes base failure repairs, sidewalk and curb repairs, drainage fixes, and radar detection upgrades at signalized intersections. Some of that preliminary work, including pedestrian signal improvements and drainage repairs, was completed before milling began.
