Beechwood's 42-35 victory over Covington Catholic on Friday, Sept. 18, headlined a Week 5 slate across Northern Kentucky that lightning cut short in multiple venues.

Nathan Pabst scored five touchdowns and capped a 69-yard drive with a 3-yard run with 21 seconds left to lift the No. 1-ranked Class 2A Tigers past the No. 3 Class 4A Colonels in Park Hills, as NKY Tribune first reported. It was Beechwood's first win over CovCath since 2021 and its first at CovCath since 2014.

As we reported Saturday, Pabst rushed 27 times for 161 yards and three touchdowns and caught four passes for 40 yards and two more scores. Tyler Fryman hauled in 13 catches for 127 yards. Together, Pabst and Fryman accounted for 355 of Beechwood's 381 total yards.

The Tigers converted 12-of-14 third downs and committed no turnovers.

"It's the big boys up front," Pabst said after the game. "(Assistant) coach (Greg) Hergott came into the game saying, 'It's going to be won up front. We're going to have to put the ball sideways and run it right down their throats.' And that's what we did."

The win gave coach Noel Rash his 201st career victory. Rash returned to Beechwood in May after spending 2025 at Conner. Beechwood (4-0) visits Owen County on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m.

Dixie Heights suspended at halftime

Highlands rolls Ryle

Quarterback Bryce Armstrong threw for 122 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 60 yards and a third score. Tayden Lorenzen added 42 rushing yards and a touchdown. Cale Harris and Dom Listerman caught the scoring passes.
