Beechwood High School families planning course schedules for the 2026-27 school year will need to account for a new graduation requirement: one credit of financial literacy, beginning with the Class of 2029.

The requirement appears in the Fort Mitchell school's 2026-27 Program of Studies but is pending Board of Education approval of the 2026-27 BHS Handbook, according to the program guide. If approved, the change means students who entered ninth grade in fall 2025 must complete a financial literacy course before they graduate. Any course carrying a financial literacy designation satisfies the credit.

23 credits, English and math every year

Beechwood's minimum graduation threshold remains 23 credits: four in English, four in math, three in science, three in social studies, one in fine arts, one in health/PE, and six electives. English and math must be taken every year.

The school emphasizes personalized courses of study. By ninth grade, students choose a four-year specialized "minor" through the EDGE program, which stands for Educational Design Geared toward Experience. Minors include engineering, biomedical science, culinary arts, entrepreneurship, environmental science, and education. Seniors complete their minor through an internship, research project, early college coursework, or dual credit.
